Dir. Statement

“I’m not Her, I’m the Other” is an adaptation of the literary work “Coucou!”, a poetic play

(monologue) written and published in 2021 in France.

It is a 28-minute fictional film that tells the story of an artist who developed a mental illness

following the death of her mother. She must overcome obstacles in her life, particularly society's

view, for the sake of her daughter, whom she wishes to regain custody of.

This film aims to raise public awareness of mental illnesses of all kinds, combat prejudice, and

create a connection with viewers on a theme that is rarely, if ever, addressed in cinema,

particularly in the Caribbean.

We poetically highlight the importance of love and kindness from those around us, as well as the

possible repercussions of the illness on social and family life.

As an artist and writer, it's important for me to engage with issues that universally affect our

society, such as mental health in this specific case.

Children of diaspora Through the inner monologue of a child of African immigrants, the film brings us originally and poetically to the heart of the identity journey of diaspora children Website>> https://www.vetue-dart.com/
