Ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024, this event, presented by the French Embassy in Ireland and the Alliance Française Irish Network as part of First Fortnight Mental Health Festival 2024 aims to raise awareness on sport, its values and benefits.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion exploring links between sport and mental health.

Synopsis

A true sports story, the film captures the wild ups and downs of the Olympics-bound career of legendary equine star Jappeloup and his rider Pierre Durand, locked in a tense relationship with his horseman father and forever uncertain of his own skills as an equestrian.

At the beginning of the 1980s, abandoning a promising career as a lawyer, Pierre Durand devotes himself to his passion: show jumping. With his fathers backing, he gambled everything on a young horse who no one else had any faith in: Jappeloup. The horse has many flaws but also remarkable poise and abilities. From competition to competition, horse and rider progress and impose themselves in the horse-riding world leading them both to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles (1984) and then in Seoul (1988).
