The 2023 Eastern Oregon Filmmaker Residency has concluded and these talented artists shared about place, people, and their process while spending a month in The Grande Ronde Valley working on screenplays that are inspired by and or can be produced in our region.
Embarking on a journey of connections and explorations, the group has been immersing themselves in the breathtaking beauty and cultural richness of our valley since their arrival on April 30. They have ventured to remarkable destinations such as Summerville Stables, Growiser, Morgan Lake, Pendleton Underground, Union County Museum, while engaging with local veterans groups, individuals, and community members. Additionally, they have fostered connections with organizations like Oregon Film, Oregon Media Production Association, and even joined the vibrant atmosphere of La Grande Farmers’ Market, supporting local merchants along the way.

A huge goal of mine during the residency is to learn about the different natural ecosystems in Eastern Oregon and the types of farming practices that exist, as well as how the land itself informs the values and sensibility of people who have made La Grande home.
I am a very curious and frequent domestic traveler, and I am fascinated by how our homes inform what we care about. I also love to talk about creativity and what people look for in the art they consume. I like to pour all these ideas into my films, which usually explore creativity and intimacy.
