This story follows the life of young, single mother Mercy. During the 1950s, women had very little authority over their own lives in rural Georgia. Mercy struggles with the illusion of having&nbsp;"the perfect family “and is willing to sacrifice her own happiness to give her child the family life she has always longed for.
