Lydia Alucardi is a socially mute goth girl who wants nothing more than to speak to people without worry. She finds solace around animals and visits her favorite cat café, Munch the Night Away three times a week. Every day that she spends there, she tries to build up the courage to talk to others, but nobody piques her interest. One day, a girl named Mai catches Lydia's eye and she's instantly, but shyly, smitten. Lydia tries to get her attention to talk to her but since she’s unable to speak when she’s nervous, the situation immediately becomes much harder than it initially seemed.

Director Biography - Mika Ervin

Director Biography - Mika Ervin

My name is Mika! I’m a femme, black, and queer artist who lives for creating anything that comes to my mind. I love creating art and stories that center femme black people because the industry is severely lacking in that department. One day, I’d love to put out my own movie/tv show that aligns with my values and experiences just like Domee Shi (Turning Red) and Rebecca Sugar (Steven Universe)! I just love to have fun with everything I create and I hope it shows through in the art I create.

Please tell us your motivation for making your film:

I'm a lesbian so I wanted to make a film about how I would have loved to fall in love in a different universe under the right circumstances

What is the theme of your submission?:

Love, queerness, disability

What was the message you wanted to convey with this project?:

I wanted to convey that lesbian relationships can be portrayed without tragedy (common trope in media) and that invisible disabilities doesn't make you any different from anyone else.

Any further comments about your submission:

I also really like cats and anime so there's a lot of influences in the film with these themes
