Director Statement
"LINGER" challenges the typical melancholic portrayal of LGBTQIAPN+ elderly in cinema.
It's a romantic film that seeks to humanize the community by expanding portrayals of possibilities, normalizing bisexuality, and addressing themes like fidelity and generational heteronormativity.
Inspired by my maternal great-grandfather, whom I've never had the chance to meet. He was the only other LGBTQIAP+ figure in my family besides myself, keeping hidden agreements within his heterosexual marriage. Through fiction, I aim to rewrite a part of our family's narrative.
The film offers a refreshing, lighter perspective on queer narratives, countering the notion perpetuated throughout my life that queer individuals inevitably end up alone and loveless.
Please tell us your motivation for making your film:
We wanted to talk about elderly queer people through a positive narrative, with love in it.
What are the themes and central messages you wanted to convey with your submission?:
It's never too late to love; we are not doomed to loneliness.
Please list ANY possible CONTENT / TRIGGER Warnings:
