In recent years, more than 2,500 books have been removed from U.S. school districts, labeled as banned, restricted, or challenged in a move to restrict access among millions of students. By no accident, the themes targeted are the usual scapegoats of the American Right—LGBTQ+ issues, Black history, and women’s empowerment—impeding future generations from developing their own thoughts and opinions on critical social issues. Weaving together a lyrical montage of insightful and inquisitive young readers and authors, THE ABCs OF BOOK BANNING inspires hope for the future.

After Ojibwe native Danielle Boyer joined the robotics team in high school, she realized how for many low-income families the notion of working with robotics can seem. Since then, she’s made it her mission to create free robot kits to connect fellow Indigenous youth to the tech skills that will shape their future.

Centered around three tight-knit generations of the Parker family, two generations take the step to change their last name. While grappling with the complicated themes of naming in the African American community, the Parkers navigate through it all with charm and a love that radiates off the screen.&nbsp;

On a remote Icelandic island, teenagers Birta and Selma rescue pufflings (young puffins) from imminent danger; as pufflings leave their nests for the first time, they often get lost, mistaking the harbor lights for the moon. Over the course of one night, we follow Birta and Selma as they take it upon themselves to counteract humanity’s damaging impact on nature, exchanging nighttime parties for puffin rescues.
