In the central jungle of Peru, three generations of Indigenous women face multiple forms of violence such as extractivism, racism, and machismo in the context of the climate crisis. They lead actions from the indigenous communities to defend their integral territory: protecting their sacred places, reforesting with ancestral plants, protecting their water sources, and guaranteeing food sovereignty for communities.
Director Biography
Juan Llacsa is a Peruvian communicator and documentary filmmaker focused on socio-environmental and community communication projects. His work combines photography, film, and environmental education to strengthen the connections between people and their territories.
Through photography, he creates portraits and visual stories about the guardians of the Peruvian Amazon who are part of the Amazonía que Late Voluntary and Community Conservation Network. He is the director of the documentary “Sembrando resistencia” (Planting Resistance), which portrays the strength of Asháninka and Yánesha women as protectors of water, their territory, and the collective memory of Peru’s central rainforest. He also promotes radio initiatives and participatory audiovisual training with Amazonian communities.
