The Election Effect is a series of five short documentaries that showcase seven different teenagers in five states across the country. Each documentary focuses on a different issue or aspect of life, but all address what life as a young person is like in the wake of the polarizing election and how that election has encouraged a level of political engagement we haven’t seen in a generation as America’s youth take both to the streets and to Twitter to amplify their voices

To celebrate Heartland Film’s 30th anniversary, Shine Global has generously partnered with us to present a selection of titles showcased at past editions of the Heartland International Film Festival and Indy Shorts! These titles include WAR/DANCE (Oscar Nominee, 2007 Heartland Film Festival Crystal Heart Award Winner), INOCENTE (Oscar Winner, 2012 Heartland Film Festival Best Short Winner), and THE ELECTION EFFECT: WESLEY (2019 Indy Short Official Selection).


Shine Global is a non-profit media company that produces inspiring films and compelling content about children and their families. Through tailored distribution and outreach, they connect with audiences in communities, classrooms, museums, and on capitol hill as part of a powerful engagement campaign to encourage social change. A portion of ticket proceeds from this series will be shared with Shine Global.
