<p>Some 70 kilometers from the former slave port of Cartagena de Indias in Colombia, the village of San Basilio de Palenque has long symbolized the struggle of the cimarrons against slavery. Even today, community organization and cultural expressions remain particularly alive. Music continues to be one of the strongholds of the community.</p>
