This collaborative poetic short Fanm Diviné (Women of divinity) by St Lucian-British creatives Curmiah Lisette and sisters Indira and Kimhia Toussaint of Twossaints Ltd is an exploration of colonialism’s impact on the diasporic, creole Caribbean woman’s spirituality and relationships with family, sexuality and grief. The piece alludes to Shakespeare's Macbeth and is a modern Caribbean exploration narrated from the perspective and voices of three women who honour ancestral practice. With a sick baby and a dying pup at home, they seek solace and convene in nature under full moon. They honour their bodies and lineage with mas under moonlight, moving in gratitude and manifestation of deepest desires. In nature, with only what is natural to them, their communing is their strength and power, and a deep sense of joy. This is a Tropical Theatre production that metaphorically explores the present state of the Caribbean/home/mother country (in this case it is St Lucia) alongside the lived experience of Caribbean womanhood. It speaks to making light of the dark and the origins of carnival and mas as spiritual practice.
