About the Event
In the lead up to the International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024), join the Stephen Lewis Foundation for a film screening and panel discussion that explores the impactful work of community-led organizations addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and its intersections with HIV.

During this event, two short films will showcase the successes and challenges of Rights Institute for Social Empowerment (RISE) and Stepping Stones International (SSI), two community-led organizations working to prevent gender-based violence and support survivors in Malawi and Botswana. After the film screening, leaders from these two organizations will be joined by a leader from Centre for Women and Children Assistance (CWCA) in Tanzania to answer audience questions and discuss what they’ve learned through their work at the forefront of the HIV response.

The panelists will consider:
· What seemingly intractable challenges have they been able to make inroads on through their approaches to community engagement and holistic support?
· How does their positioning as community-led and community-based organizations impact the work they do and the successes they have?
· What are the intersections between gender-based violence and HIV in their communities?
· How do their staff and volunteers cope with the direct and vicarious trauma that they experience through this work? Have their organizations been able to support mental health and well-being of staff and volunteers? What else is needed?
We are proud to be an AIDS 2024 Affiliated Independent Event. AIDS 2024, the 25th International AIDS Conference, will take place in Munich, Germany, and virtually from 22 to 26 July 2024.
