It starts with coordinated fare evasions by a few students in 2019. But soon, millions of people in Chile are taking a stand in a popular uprising. They are demanding nothing less than the resignation of President Sebastian Piñera, a new constitution and an end to ‘the brick’ – the neoliberal economic model of the Pinochet dictatorship. The streets are awash with anger at a system that has fuelled the country’s social inequality for years. Mariana fills her days teaching impoverished children and distributing medicine to disadvantaged households. On the other side of the political spectrum is wealthy businessman Ramiro. As old wounds from a brutal dictatorship are reopened, both Mariana and Ramiro undergo an unexpected transformation over the course of this memorable year.
