Central High School in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas sits in one of the state's poorest regions. With an underserved school district, its students have fallen through the cracks. Central High English teacher DJ Sellarole set out to develop an extracurricular program to provide troubled students with an outlet to creatively explore their inner turmoil—thus Rap Squad was born. This musical portrait follows the lives of Rap Squad students who use the program to powerfully excavate emotional terrain far beyond their years.
