WINNER BOROS AWARD - BEST SCREENPLAY - Whistler Film Festival 2020

"Larger-than-life problems are often best explored via microcosm and Québexit delivers a farce worthy of the comedy greats. From pipeline politics to regional angst (“F-king New Brunswick!” the film’s chyrons constantly lament), to long-unsettled Indigenous issues. There’s something here for every part of confederation, all rendered in a sidesplitting trilingual script of French, English and Cree." - Shaun Lang, Hollywood North Mag

Québexit is a multi-lingual (English, French, Cree) ensemble political comedy: when a transnational pipeline leads to a successful third Québec sovereignty referendum, a small road at the Québec-New Brunswick border becomes a lightning rod of conflict between the new Québec military, the Canadian Armed Forces and two indigenous women who traverse the border frequently.

The Quebec government interprets a vaguely worded referendum about a transnational pipeline as an affirmative vote for separation, and declares Quebec a sovereign nation.

Hilarious confrontations ensue on a small road at the Quebec–New Brunswick border between the Canadian Armed Forces, the newly formed Quebec military, two Indigenous women, and even NATO! None of the groups really wish to physically harm each other, but engage instead in vigorous verbal warfare.

Shot on a budget of only $125,000, Quebexit concisely summarizes Canadian political history and suggests we have more in common with each other than we might admit.
