The documentary film titled Panaglaga (Basket weaving) portrays the Tingguian women of Uguis, Nueva Era , Ilocos Norte. While traditional baskets are sold almost everywhere in the country, the said town where weaving is revered a lost skill , the Tingguian women weaves a small baskets lined with black strips. The traditional handicrafts and folk arts of our “kailians” from Uguis were initially born out of necessity , yet they are also objects of remarkable beauty . Once used by locals to barter in exchange for basic commodities, the skill of basket weaving seems to be a dying art. Basket weavers are still around in Uguis but few of them were active weavers . In this time of pandemic , we really have arts fighting to survive Covid- 19 impact .
