Supposed miracles and dizzying sex swirl together throughout Blessed Boys, a drama about family bonds that evolve from heightened circumstances. Would you be able to resist the person you’ve always wanted if it would risk changing the course of your friendship?
In a small neighborhood division of Naples, best friends Mario and Lino are so close they could be brothers. They dream of one day escaping their town where everyone knows everyone else’s business, and they distract themselves with playing soccer and wild nights out with their friends, or picking up older women at nightclubs. Lino is struggling to make ends meet as his mother seems to be struggling with her mental health, and she can’t seem to remember to turn off the gas stove.
Lino’s young sister, Annaluce, becomes the talk of the neighborhood when she seemingly brings life back to a dead dove, and everyone begins to believe that she is a saint. Can she perform miracles and revive with a single touch or kiss? Or is everyone in this town so desperate for something divine that they put all of their hopes and prayers on the shoulders of one small, young girl? As the frenzy intensifies in the family’s home life, the bond between Mario and Lino becomes increasingly charged as they share more erotic encounters. Francesco Pallegrino, as Lino, has a sweet, boyish confidence that descends into rugged, carnal masculinity whenever he is having sex for money. No wonder Mario can’t resist him.
Blessed Boys blends dark comedy with divine drama with explorations of friendship, masculinity, sexuality and family.
