Eating: the power to save the ocean (52')

Sharks are the super-predators of the oceans and the terror of the Western world. They are often perceived as bloodthirsty killers. This fear is heightened every time a shark attack hits the headlines. In response, beaches around the world are closed, nets are set up and sharks are systematically slaughtered. Living with sharks seems incompatible with our new lifestyles.
Yet one country has made a radically different choice: the Bahamas. This paradise archipelago, which welcomes nearly 7 million visitors every year, has declaredÃÅ its waters "shark sanctuaries". How do locals and tourists manage to live with these large predators? Would it be possible to get close to those considered to be man-eaters?
To answer this question, photographer Rodolphe Guignard takes us to the heart of shark territory. Accompanied by experts and scientists, he dives right up close to the sharks to capture some surprising interactions. An intense face-to-face encounter that reveals the true face of sharks, the opposite of their sad reputation.

Face to Face - Overcoming fear with sharks

Destructive mining practices, dams, and freshwater diversion for agriculture have destroyed critical upriver spawning habitats. Changing ocean climate impacts the fish’s saltwater life stage. Overfishing adds to salmon’s downward spiral. Hear from Bay Area fisherfolk, restaurateurs, and even an almond grower how fisheries innovations, better management, and sustainable farming practices could help this delicious, resilient fish once again achieve abundance. – MJS

This is the tale of Sofia Green, a young marine biologist who grew up exploring the globe with her parents, who were naturalist guides. As a little girl, she swam fearlessly alongside her father in the waters of the Galapagos, unbothered by the presence of sharks. Now as an adult, she and her father reconnect through their shared passion to protect the largest fish on the planet, the Whale Shark. – SW

In the Dominican Republic, baseball is more than a game—it's a cultural cornerstone. But rapid development is threatening the country’s vital mangroves. Ismael Diaz-Tolentino, an ecologist with Seacology, is using the nation’s passion for baseball to inspire a nationwide commitment to sustainability through his initiative, "Play for the Mangroves." – FM
