There is a saying, "Sticks and stones will hurt my bones but words will never hurt me.". Really?

A father gave his bad-tempered son a bag of nails and a hammer and asked him to hammer a nail into the back of the fence every time he lost his temper.

Over the weeks, he drove nails into the fence. On each day when he did not lose his temper, his father said pull out one nail.

Eventually the boy was finally able to remove all the nails from the fence. He was excited to share this with his father.

The father was pleased, led the boy to the fence and pointed out the holes in the fence. They will remain there forever. Similarly, when you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like these.

Wisdom says, "Kind words heal and help; cutting words wound and maim.".
