This powerful and intimate documentary delves into the cultural, religious, and deeply personal meaning of hair covering among Jewish women, focusing on Orthodox and Hasidic communities around the world. Filmed in Miami, Jerusalem, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax, the film weaves together personal stories and diverse perspectives, revealing how wigs, scarves, and other coverings function not only as symbols of faith and marriage, but also as profound expressions of identity, spirituality, and self-empowerment.

Blending history, tradition, and contemporary voices, the film traces the religious roots of hair covering in Judaism and other faiths while challenging common misconceptions and stereotypes. It also offers a rare glimpse into the global wig industry, illuminating the artistry, symbolism, and emotional resonance behind choices that are often misunderstood.

At its heart, SHEITEL: Beauty in the Hidden invites audiences to look beyond appearances, bridging cultural divides and fostering a deeper understanding of tradition, womanhood, and the universal search for self-expression.
