Benjamin owns and runs the Danish local newspaper ’Copenhagen Times’, a newspaper formerly known for thorough and investigative journalism. However, in 2015, the papers funds are running out, and while Benjamin fights to figure out a way to financially stay alive, Copenhagen is hit by an unknown terrorist threat, that not only raises questions about freedom of speech, but also the threats of modern-day terrorism. The paper is struggling to stay current, creative and innovative in the Danish news media. When the first attack hits, he sees the opportunity to get a selling frontpage. but there will be a price to pay after the second attack.

Danny Thykaer was born November 27th 1978. His mother is Israeli and his father is Danish. He is trained as an actor and director. Danny has had leading roles in several award winning films over the 15 years. He has won international awards as an actor, director and writer. ‘Backgammon’ marked his feature film directorial debut in 2014, and the film won 18 international awards and was nominated for motion picture of the year at the Danish Film Academy Awards. ‘The Lone Killer’ is Danny’s second feature film.

Director Statement

I wanted to show the real mix of ethnicity on a Danish newspaper, which is usually portrayed as all white, watching these different people of race and religion working together, with a backdrop of two terrorist acts that occurred within 24 hours. The elements of freedom of speech, terror, journalism and searching for the Frontpage, was important to me personally, because it infuses everything that you see on the news today. It was a sad day in Danish cultural history that deserved a to be made into a motion picture, no matter how tough the subject matter. As a Danish Israeli director in Denmark, you have to tread lightly because, the people’s court will be gunning for you, or as in the film, not only with words but with bullets.
