A note on the English subtitles: the sync on the subtitles gets delayed approximately 30 minutes into the film. We've worked with the distributor to get this sorted but unfortunately this is the best version available. If you find the sync too distracting please email info@kingcanfilmfest.com and we will exchange your ticket. The film is fine in the original French version.

An exchange between a philosophy professor and a student has unforeseen repercussions for themselves and many others in director Catherine Therrien’s deftly rendered drama, which uses the campus classroom as a microcosm for wider societal change. As thoughtful the film often is, it’s also uncommonly engaging thanks to its two terrific lead performances. Patrice Robitaille stars as Etienne, a well-regarded teacher and author who may be undone by his rigid thinking and stubborn ways. Last seen at the festival in ANTIGONE (KCFF20), Nour Belkhiria is equally captivating as the young woman who also finds herself navigating a system that is not designed to allow for the very human ambiguities and complexities of the situation at hand.
