HBO® APA Visionaries is a short film competition showcasing emerging Asian and Pacific Islander American filmmakers. To honor Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and our filmmakers, HBO is celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander communities and its stories by streaming winning films from previous years. Come gather in strength as we watch #HBOVisionaries shorts throughout the month.
These films are available for viewing from Friday, May 29th at 12pm PT to Sunday, May 31st at 11:59pm PT.

Julie Zhan
Julie Zhan stands at a daunting 5’1¾”, an unabashed double walking contradiction: Type-A-procrastinator-perfectionist-artist. She is an actress, filmmaker, and dancer born and raised in Guangzhou, China. Her work spans the small screen (NCIS: LOS ANGELES, THE RESIDENT, GRANDFATHERED, PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, WISDOM OF THE CROWD), big screen (COMFORT), and stage (ABC TALENT SHOWCASE). In the digital and streaming sphere, Zhan’s work has been viewed over 115 million times (Walmart’s WIZARD SCHOOL DROPOUT, Wong Fu’s YAPPIE, Smosh, Fullscreen). Her film ZOETIC was a finalist for the HBO APA Visionaries competition. Zhan is also an impassioned advocate for diverse representation in the media and thoroughly fascinated by the new and boundless opportunities created in the digital universe, which she explores as the Producer of the New York Times-featured documentary, UPLOADED: THE ASIAN AMERICAN MOVEMENT.
