"I began working on this film a few days after suffering a devastating bicycle accident that left me briefly paralyzed and with a seriously broken neck. It occurred to me that doing this film from the viewpoint of someone needing caregiving and currently experiencing it would add a useful perspective to my series about caregiving for adults with disabilities. I began shooting with my cell phone while in the hospital a day after an operation to fuse my neck. I was in two different rehab facilities over the next month and then home where I was more or less bedridden for another two months. Video selfies follow my progress with personal commentary. This accident was very sudden and caused a dramatic change in my life that gave me no time to adjust. I kept shooting all along...describing my ever changing feelings about what had happened to me, what was happening to me, and what may happen to me in the future. These selfie videos form the basis for the film, which expands well beyond selfies and presents issues about caregiving in general. The film includes expert commentary on the mental and physical aspects of this type of recovery as well a description of the same aspects concerning my family. It is our hope that this film will be useful to others coping with difficult life transitions and to their families, and of use to caregivers and medical professionals of all kinds." — Bill Chayes
