On the morning of January 13th, 2018, the State of Hawaii issued a false missile warning leading millions to believe a missile attack was imminent. The culture of live-streaming provided a real-time record of those who chose to deal with their own mortality in selfie-mode. With a chorus of voices from various social media platforms, 808: HOW WE RESPOND takes a look at the effects of false information, our desire to be seen, and our growing cultural instinct to process our lives in front of the camera, even in our final moments.
