Every November, co-Directors Alex Wolf Lewis and Kaitlyn Schwalje celebrate Thanksgiving at Alex's Aunt and Uncle’s house just outside of Philadelphia. And every November they marvel at the fact that the family’s 4-inch-long pet turtle, Snowy, is still alive. Snowy has lived an isolated life in the family basement for the past 10+ years with minimal sunlight and no companionship other than that of his primary caretaker, Uncle Larry. In an effort to improve Snowy's life we ask: Can Snowy be happy and what would it take? This short documentary is both an investigation into animal happiness and an intervention to improve one turtle’s life. Through interviews with Snowy’s veterinarian, the Wolf family, a reptile expert, and an animal psychic we explore our capacity to understand the animals that live in our homes. Snowy’s story is a stand-in for the unexamined lives of our house pets—the goldfish, lizards, guinea pigs, and hermit crabs of our childhoods—the JV squad of house pets—the ones too small, short-lived and expressionless to garner much of our human attention.

Sarna reflects on the human condition in a non-human environment. A story of howls, barks and desolate glances in the outskirts of the Pan American Highway where most of its inhabitants are stray dogs that roam erratically through the gray and melancholic streets. Our look will be that of a person in the land of dogs with scabies; it will be the vision of a foreigner in the territory of dogs that rummage their bodies - scratching alienated - lying on the asphalt while they look for sunlight. Humans seem to be the guests in this city where dogs are their own owners and live wildly in packs or lonely wanderers. A girl's voice is reproduced through an old recording tape; she tells us stories, as brought from a previous civilization. The melody between the cut of his soft voice merges with the roughness and sleaze of the landscape immersing ourselves in an intimate and introspective thought that will make us think until after it is finished. The Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 triggered a tsunami, nuclear meltdown and mass evacuations in Fukushima Prefecture. Today, as part of a government push to encourage resettlement, local hunters have been enlisted to dispose of irradiated wild boars that now roam through the abandoned streets and buildings.&nbsp;This expressionistic short film follows a lone hunter into an isolated and changed landscape. Along the way, other citizens who still live near the reactor share their perspectives on the aftermath. Co-presented by <a href="http://caamedia.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Center for Asian American Media.</a>

The Toxic Pigs of Fukushima

With the people of south-western Uganda forced to hunt pangolins for survival due to a lack of income, one local man fights to save not only the lives of the pangolins, but the very people themselves. This one-woman-crew, short documentary tells the raw, untold story of Moses Arineitwe. Known by locals as the "Pangolin Man", Moses strives to save the most illegally traded mammal in the world, hoping to change the minds of the very people who hunt them through the use of education and alternatives to poaching. But, with a lack of funding and resources, Moses must overcome his own struggles, in order to achieve his goal.
