UNDERSTORY
An ode to navigation, to the thick walls of nature an adaptation to silences, deafening cries. A series of memory frames shot on 16mm from 2012-2016.
A MONTH OF SINGLE FRAMES
In 1998, lesbian experimental filmmaker Barbara Hammer had an artist residency in a shack without running water or electricity. She shot film and kept a journal. In 2018, she gave all of her material from the residency to Lynne Sachs and invited her to make a film.
AT HOME BUT NOT AT HOME
An exploration of identity, cinema, and liberation through Skype interviews with my father growing up under Portuguese colonialism in India. Utilizing various methods of seeing at a distance, this film questions the construction of artifice and memory through the moving image.
MARIPOSA
Mariposa is a poetic exploration on single motherhood through the words of contemporary poet Rachel Inez Marshall. The story explores the emotional gaps between generations of Latinx Woman. We see how the day to day lives of mothers and daughters flash between love & loss.
CAMERA SICK
Grain size criteria. Pixels in space. The earth spins while bodies and cameras wind and rotate on its surface. Sand particles infest recording devices scratching unravelling celluloid. The camera and its operator transform from seers to ecstatic performers.
SPIT ON THE BROOM
Spit on the Broom is a surreal documentary that explores the United Order of Tents, a clandestine organization of black women organized in the 1840s during the height of the Underground Railroad.
MY FAVORITE OBJECT
"Any object, intensely regarded, may be a gate of access to the incorruptible eon of the gods." - James Joyce
SANCTUARY
Within the confines of an artificial butterfly habitat, a life of tenuous human-insectal relations is lived.
WIND HONEY
Shot using a microscope, Wind Honey takes us on a meditative, abstract journey through the original sweetness: honey. An ethereal ambient track by the band Peals builds to a crescendo, while bubbles and sugar granules become planets and galaxies. As above so below, and within.
CAMBIA TUTTO
A trip down a mountain through an aging Italian village, frame by frame.
SO MANY IDEAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DO ALL
A year before her death, Barbara Hammer asked me to work on a project she'd envisioned based on her correspondence (1973-85) with Jane Brakhage. What emerged is a portrait of Barbara as a brave and vibrant artist and a complex and nuanced long distance friendship.
