The term “altered state” refers specifically to dreamlike, hallucinatory, or surreal states of mind of which many experimental narrative films are based. In this program, filmmakers subvert and expand on what could be considered typical story arcs involving comedy, drama, and suspense, but crafting them in their own wild and otherworldly style. These films include stunning examples of art direction and costume design, encouraging viewers to tackle relatable issues under a new light.
