Gonzalo Maza is renowned as one of the great screenwriters of Latin American cinema. A co-writer on four Sebastian Lelio films, including the Oscar-winning A Fantastic Woman, he has now directed one of his screenplays for the first time, the lovely This is Cristina, executive produced by Salma Hayek.

Cristina and Susana have been best friends since high school. But now, deep into their 30s, their lives are in need of a wake-up call. Cristina just divorced and she is not prepared for her new spinsterhood; Susana is moving back into her mother's house. After a bad fight, they decide to keep their distance from each other. And now, both separated, they will have to deal alone with the long line of selfish, self-centered and egotistical men around them.

With beautiful black and white cinematography inspired by the films of John Cassavetes and Jim Jarmusch, which Maza has cited as references, This is Cristina makes clear that Maza is as talented a director as he is a screenwriter. Winner of the Jordan Ressler First Feature Award at the 37th Miami Film Festival.

This screening is sponsored by FlixLatino, ViendoMovies Available with Xfinity and the Jordan Alexander Ressler Charitable Fund.
