Perhaps nothing is more unexplainable to the two newest generations of voters than the unprecedented presidential election night of 2000, when the contested results of Florida’s nearly six million votes led to a chaotic voter recount in the state, ending five weeks later with George W. Bush winning by the razor-thin margin of 537 votes.
