What does the afterlife hold? Missing letters from 1934; discarded goods on New York City curbs; personal treasures in the ashes of a wildfire; endangered reptiles hiding in plain sight…countless beings, objects, and memories are salvaged and given new meaning. Every species is preserved in the cloud as pixels and code - could the simulation of our lives save us from extinction?

In 1934 Indian aerospace engineer Stephen Smith initiated his first rocket mail trial, scattering 143 letters onto the shores of Saugor Island where all but three were recovered. Drawing on epistolary narratives set at the border between India and China, Three Missing Letters speculates on the contents of these lost letters.

A film about Anna Sacks, a dumpster diver in New York City who has recently found viral social media fame for calling out wasteful corporate practices. Meanwhile, the physical build-up of the trash she collects, and the anxiety of the never-ending cycles of waste are weighing her down and keeping her from her goals.

Piled Up

Filmed in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California during the nine months following the CZU Lightning Complex wildfire that destroyed over 900 area homes, filmmaker Irene Lusztig invites her own neighbors to share objects lost or found in the fire. Together, they co-create a different kind of “contents inventory”—a collective emotional map of what home means at a moment when the idea of home feels most fragile.
