Nominated for 10 Israeli Academy Awards (Ophirs), The Milky Way is a deeply moving and darkly comedic film featuring Hadas Yaron of Shtisel fame. Set in a dystopian world where breast milk is a luxury, the film tells the story of Tala, a talented but struggling musician who, facing the challenge of raising her newborn alone, takes a job at an upscale dairy specializing in premium breast milk for affluent families. When a minor error costs her position, Tala finds herself entangled with Nili, a wealthy client who is a regular user of the service. Through her interactions with mothers from diverse backgrounds, Tala is forced to confront her own aspirations and challenges. Directed by Maya Kenig and featuring a transcendent and haunting performance by Israeli musician Hila Ruach—who also composed the original score—the film offers a poignant and captivating exploration of the trials and triumphs, and challenges and joys, of motherhood.
