In the heart of Budapest, elderly couple Eva and Bandi share a love story shaped by history and memory. Eva, a spirited Holocaust survivor, has devoted her life to bearing witness to the horrors she endured, while Bandi, who lost his family in Auschwitz, carries the quieter scars of survival. Together, they navigate the simple rhythms of daily life — sipping coffee and strolling through markets—all while confronting the lingering shadows of the past.
When Eva is offered a role in a virtual reality film recreating the deportation of Hungarian Jews, she faces a haunting choice: to relive her greatest trauma or to leave the past untouched. With Bandi’s tender support, she courageously steps back into history, donning the yellow star once more and entering the wagon again.
Through intimate, observational moments, the film captures Eva’s remarkable vitality—her yoga, her dancing, her unshakable humor—and the profound bond she and Bandi share. But as Eva’s life comes to its natural close, Bandi must confront a new kind of survival, that of learning to live in the silence left behind.
A moving portrait of love, memory, and resilience, Eva and Bandi is a testament to how the past and present intertwine—and how even in the face of unimaginable loss, life and love endure.
