Eighty years after the liberation of Auschwitz, The Last Twins reveals the remarkable true story of Erno “Zvi” Spiegel, a Hungarian Jewish prisoner whose courage and compassion saved the lives of dozens of young twins targeted for Nazi medical experiments.
At just 29 years old, Spiegel was assigned by the infamous Dr. Josef Mengele—the “Angel of Death”—to oversee a group of twin boys imprisoned in Auschwitz. Powerless to halt the brutality, he instead became their guardian and protector, using every ounce of ingenuity to preserve their dignity, share scarce food, and nurture a sense of humanity amid the horror.
Narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber, this powerful documentary interlaces survivor testimonies, rare archival footage, and reflections from Spiegel’s daughter, Judith Richter. Together, these voices illuminate a story of moral courage and resilience that endured even in the face of unimaginable evil.
Directed and produced by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Perri Peltz and Matthew O’Neill, The Last Twins is a moving testament to the extraordinary impact one person can have—even in humanity’s darkest hour.
