
Music Supervising The Nashville Film Festival

Independent film festivals have long been fertile ground for new upcoming film makers and screenwriters to showcase their work and gain exposer to larger audiences. Conversely, it’s a place for music supervisors to strut their creative expertise in ground breaking films. The Nashville Film Festival prides itself on discovering, elevating and honoring filmmakers, screenwriters, music makers and music supervisors from Tennessee and around the world. For this panel, we will speak with a few music supervisors who sourced, licensed, edited and cleared the music for films being presented at this years Nashville Film Festival. Join us for a discussion on independent film and the music supervisor experience.

Jonathan Finegold
Is the founder of Fine Gold Music; a music licensing and publishing company. He represents many indie labels/artists/publishers including Westbound (Funkadelic), Luaka Bop (William Onyeabor), Anderson .Paak, DRAM, and Eminem. His licensing work has been heard in ads for Apple iPhones, Nike, Spotify, Cadillac, and more. Movies & trailer work includes Furious 7, The Big Short, Moneyball, and more. TV shows include: Homeland, Mad Men, Narcos, The Chi and many more. He has served as music supervisor on many indie films & documentaries. His credits include the Netflix docuseries Lenox Hill, Playroom staring Oscar nominated John Hawkes. He has worked with John Legend’s film/TV production company Get Lifted, where he supered the feature Can You Dig It & HBO’s documentary Southern Rites. Other recent films include the documentary And We Go Green which debuted at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, The Truffle Hunters (Sony Classics) which world premiered in 2020 at Sundance and the 2017 Sundance Sloane Prize winning Marjorie Prime starring Jon Hamm. He is currently an adjunct instructor in music business at both New York University and Marymount Manhattan College. He previously taught at the Clive Davis Dept. of Recorded Music in NYU’s Tisch School. He has lectured at the Berklee College of Music and New School. He’s a Grammy voting member of NARAS for over 20 years and a voting member of the Guild of Music Supervisors.
Maxwell Gosling is a Los Angeles based, Emmy award-winning music supervisor and founder of Little Ears. Originally from Michigan, Gosling started his career in 2001 as a music supervisor for Campbell-Ewald focusing on their flagship client, Chevrolet. Gosling soon relocated to California and launched Little Ears in 2009 and today oversees all creative out of both Los Angeles & New York for advertising projects of all kinds as well as film and television. Gosling has licensed music and supervised original scores and sound design for global brands including Nike, Calvin Klein, Google, Mercedes, Delta, Toyota, Johnnie Walker, Adidas & Facebook. Outside of work you might find Maxwell sipping an amaro, an espresso, an amaro with espresso, playing with his dog Murphy or supporting his beloved Los Angeles Football Club.
Sarah Bromberg, is VP, Music Supervision & Library at Raedio and handles music supervision for a myriad of film and television projects in addition to pitching a growing in-house library. Her career encompasses experience as not only a music supervisor, but also as a label manager and professor in between working on high-profile movies and series such as Starz’ P-Valley, Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down, and more. “The goal is for the music to bring out the intended emotion, whether it’s humor, fear, anger, or love,” she says. “We’re trying to help convey those emotions in the moment with integrity. The creative from the directors, producers, and writers comes first. Raedio’s vision is to be a 360-degree music company, and I’m honored to be a part of that.” In 2015, Sarah joined the team at Bonfire Collective under the leadership of founder Stephanie Diaz-Matos. Over the course of the next five years, her music supervision spanned The Get Down, the NETFLIX film Someone Great, and the acclaimed documentary Crime + Punishment, which made its debut at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. Becoming a member of the Raedio team in 2020, her projects have included the critically acclaimed Netflix series Naomi Osaka, Hulu’s Woke & HBOMax’s Sweet Life with more on the horizon. “I always hope the music we’re placing strongly speaks the language of the project to the viewer,” she leaves off. “We’re creatively exploring what the movie or series is saying musically. Maybe the audience discovers something new afterwards. There’s nothing better than that.”
Kyle McKeveny is a music supervisor based in New York City known for his work on the recent film Save Yourselves! and the documentaries Long Strange Trip and Hail Satan? He was the music supervisor on the Nashville Film Festival selection Socks on Fire directed by Bo McGuire. In addition to his work in film, Kyle has also music supervised commercial campaigns for many notable brands and agencies.
Trina-Marie Hill Trina moved to Los Angeles in 2002 where her keen ear and natural love for music lent itself to a career in Music Supervision. 18 years later, Trina has successfully placed and licensed thousands of songs ranging from unknown artists to the most widely known music. Her work can be found in television, film, documentaries and commercials.
Trina is typically found working on programming that focuses on music and musician based casts, which require a deep understanding of music clearance and also the ability to craft the sound for each particular series.
Trina is also involved in music documentaries. Currently streaming on Amazon is, “Street Light Harmonies” which is a documentary that’s a beautiful, yet overdue homage to the great trailblazers of Doo Wop music. She also did the Music Supervision on, “Long Promised Road” a documentary about the genius, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in June of 2021 and is also showing in The Nashville Film Festival in September of 2021. Trina oversaw the Music Supervision on “Mary J Blige’s: My Life”, a documentary about the unparalleled Mary J. Blige which is available on Amazon.
