Director Biography - Sam Shapson

Sam Shapson is a genre-focused writer, director, producer pursuing character-driven stories that push beyond the everyday to explore cerebral and unsettling themes. His short THE TREEHOUSE played internationally at Austin, Fantasia, San Jose, BendFilm, as well as featured on Short of the

Week and Omeleto. In 2015, his short film REFUGE was acknowledged as the world's first narrative film lit exclusively by natural moonlight in articles by Gizmodo, Indiewire, Vice, Nerdist, & No Film School. In 2021, Sam’s latest short film, THE OFFER, played at Fantasia, San Jose CineQuest, 2020 DeadCENTER, Ojai, and FilmQuest. Sam was a DGA 1st & 2nd AD for 10 years, during which time he AD’d 11 Features, 40+ Commercials & 60+ Music Videos. His projects as AD have premiered at Sundance, Tribeca, & SXSW, and includes Hulu Originals CONTROL FREAK (2025) and CLOCK (2023). He is currently completing an MFA in the Peter Stark Producing Program at USC.
