Now in his 70s, master book designer Nobuyoshi Kikuchi has designed over 15,000 books in a career lasting four decades. Happily anachronistic, he continues to use old fashioned scissors, rulers and pencils to create his designs, and carefully contemplates the exact variety of paper and ink to use according to the nature of each book. Three years in the making, this passion project by Nanako Hirose—her late father was also a book designer—is soothing time well spent with this fascinating man as we learn his working methods and watch as he mentors his acolytes.
