FROM THE NICKEL VAULT - Ah, mummering. Our traditional take on wearing a mask. Then there’s the music, the dancing, the social lubrication, ugly sticks, and of course, the outrageous costumes. Edward Tanasychuk’s Best NL Film at the 2010 Nickel adds one more ingredient, larceny. Young Curtis (Mark O’Brien) is coerced into participating in a plot to steal money that a local resident has reportedly squirreled away somewhere in his house. Dressed as mummers, the criminal masterminds intend to keep the owner distracted, while Curtis finds and secures the loot. What could go wrong in a film that does everything right?
