Filmmaker Cher Obediah documents the journey of discovering her Seneca and Ojibwe roots through the learning of traditional dance.

More from Cher Obediah:

"I was researching a historical project when my focus shifted to my own history. I started to ask a lot of questions and tug at the branches of my family tree. I decided to find someone to teach me Woman’s Fancy Shawl and include the journey in the historical piece. My teacher, Naomi Martin / Tribal Vision Dance was priceless and her patience endless. I was an over thinker, awkward, slow and lacked confidence. In spite of all that, it was one of the most rewarding intuitive decisions I ever made.

I decided to make it project on its own. Learning more and getting connected to my culture created as sense of alignment and belonging. I felt purposeful and afraid in a good way. I woke up one morning excited, hopped out of bed and said to myself “Don’t Just Talk About It!” and there it was... the title was gifted to me in my sleep. The project is filled with bits of information I wish I would have known sooner about my culture, about life and the power we have over our own patterned thinking.

The main message is to live life, be guided by your heart and be open to that quiet voice of intuition. Life isn’t meant to be endured, it’s meant to be filled with magical moments."
