In a rural farmhouse where five women are awaiting the chance to resume their lives, Aga lives as an only child. Collectively parented by his foul-mouthed aunties, he works at learning Serbian, so he can track down his father, whom he has never met. As the house’s residents anticipate the nighttime arrival of a journalist to whom they’ll tell their stories, Aga relies on the help of a man with his own dark past. Chronicling a place on earth where memories of war and pain are no longer fresh but not yet faded into history, Kosovar filmmaker Lendita Zeqiraj (NOFF 2018 jury award winner, Best Narrative Short for "Fence") casts aside sugarcoated portraits of resilience and broken, no-future parables. What emerges instead is a tough-hearted reckoning with the everyday nature of living with trauma. -Jonathan Kieran
