Beginning with the opening lines of Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s Sunset Village, The Inheritance invites us into a vibrant gallery replete with the sounds, words, and images of a seemingly endless Black archive: the history and contributions of a people for you to engage with as you move from room to room. The title initially refers to a West Philly row house, but continues as an exploration of the act of collective living within the Black community. The house and film are populated by individuals with diverging interests, approaches, and perceptions, all working toward a shared, accessible place to call home. Somehow both prescient and timeless, The Inheritance is sustenance for a people struggling to thrive under the weight of Late Capitalism. -Greta Hagen-Richardson
