Buddy Guy began his career playing guitar at a gas station near his home in Lettsworth, Louisiana where he was noticed by John "Big Poppa" Tilley. But when he was hired to play a gig at a club he was too shy and played with his back turned to the audience which led Big Poppa to promptly fire him. Eventually he earned a place in Tilley's band and from there Guy was hooked. Following his dreams to play with legendary blues musicians, he traveled to Chicago but following his dreams had its price. Broke and hungry, Guy contemplated returning home to Louisiana when he met his musical hero, blues legend Muddy Waters who took him under his wing. Eventually, Guy's music and mesmerizing stage presence led to record deals and a place of honor in music history. Today, Buddy Guy remains an inspiration to guitarists like Gary Clark, Jr., John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and Carlos Santana, who, in the film attest to Buddy Guy's revolutionary playing style and magnetic stage presence. Featuring archival and never-before-seen performances by Buddy Guy-with the likes of President Obama and The Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase the Blues Away is a powerful tribute to Guy's groundbreaking legacy in the blues and his influence on some of the most renowned guitarists today.
