Intro: Queens of the Revolution

In 2019, the legendary American rock band Blondie was invited to perform in Havana, Cuba as part of a cultural exchange through the Cuban Ministry of Culture. This was a 40 year dream come true for the influential band, especially for one of its founding members, songwriter &amp; guitarist Chris Stein who had longed to visit Cuba for most of his life. Artist and director Rob Roth documented this special moment and career highlight by shooting a short film called “BLONDIE: VIVIR EN LA HABANA”.

Mejunje is a thriving cultural community in Santa Clara and has paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights in Cuba. Through the streets and stages of Mejunje, we meet drag queens, trans women, and other members of the queer community who stood tall in the face of adversity and imprisonment for decades. Listen to their stories steeped in pain, love, fear, and above all, hope. Despite being violently persecuted, these revolutionaries have chosen to stay and fight for themselves and their loved ones in their beloved home.
