From the streets of New Orleans to the bayous of coastal communities, these stories uplift the convergence of cultures that make Southern Louisiana so unique.

Jaded well beyond their 15 years, each member of a crew of tappers has lost someone to gun violence, and many more to prison. Through their own run-ins with police and struggles for opportunity, the tappers’ story reveals layer by layer the burdens Black youth face—and work to overcome—as they wade into adulthood.
