For 35 years, Hedgebrook has lifted up the voices of women authoring change on the page, on the screen, and on the stage. If you love films written, directed and/or produced by talented women with a passion for visual storytelling, you won’t want to miss this event!
This year, the Hedgebrook Filmmakers’ Showcase features a selection of shorts and features, both documentary and fiction, from independent films to the making of a Hollywood hit, with a filmmaker discussion following each film. Expand your mind through their storytelling, and learn what inspired them to create and share these films. Grab your favorite snack, gather your favorite people, and come support the four featured filmmakers!
You can watch in person at NWFF on opening day, May 19, or closing night at WICA on June 3, or virtually from May 20 – June 2. People aged 13+ are all welcome to enjoy the showcase.
Presented in partnership with the CineStory Foundation, Northwest Film Forum and Whidbey Island Center for the Arts.
Poster designed by Jen Will-Thapa.
If you’ve seen Inside Out, the 2015 Academy Award-winning animated Pixar hit, you know the journey told through the perspective of 11-year old Riley’s emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. Join award-winning writer and Hedgebrook alum Meg LeFauve for a brief chat on the emotions of being a writer, and how those emotions are critical to doing the work. If you haven’t seen Inside Out, pull up a comfy chair and get to it!
