“I don’t want to be anybody’s fucking hero. I just want to be a ZERO.”

- Lester Bangs

BEAT YOUR HEART OUT is a documentary film about The Zeros.

In 1976 four Mexican-American teenagers blasted out of the sleepy San Diego suburb of Chula Vista preaching the gospel according to proto punks like The Standells, The Seeds, and the New York Dolls. They didn’t realize it at the time, but they had just formed one of the first punk rock bands in Southern California. This film is their story.
