At the laundromat, a young couple argues over the fate of the husband’s ratty but beloved hoodie. The wife wants it gone, but the husband stubbornly defends it. The standoff escalates with the wife storming off. Left behind with the laundry, the husband reminisces through his humorous cherished memories with the hoodie, while the wife recalls the past with it as embarrassing and horrific. With their memories tumbling by, some begin to sway their hearts. In the end, struggling to hold his hoodie over the garbage bin, the husband must decide whether or not it’s finally time to let it go. HOODIE is a short and sweet relationship comedy developed by Christopher Borecky, Eden Ocean, and Sean Nicholas in part with Sheridan College.

Woods in the Rain

Canada is a known nation that embraces and accepts everything and anyone. People outside and living in Canada may not know the dark history of racism that is hidden. Minority groups such as the Black and Latino communities are often heavily discriminated upon. In this film, Noah GodfreyLopez is a bi-racial, Black and Latino, young adult who explores his dads and step-dads stories and connects it to his own experiences. Rohan Godfrey recounts his story of being choked out by an Italian student and nothing being done about it. As for Victor (Henry) Ramirez having being accused for being a drug dealer because he was able to buy food from his High School cafeteria. Both stories illustrate the prejudice in Canada, and unfortunately now in the modern era, Noah is experiencing similar problems despite it being 30-40 years later.

Passing it Down

When Emily comes to terms with her sexuality, she struggles with the pressure of her religious mother and her church to conform to their ideals. But Emily is determined to be who she wants to be, and wants nothing more than to tell her mother the truth so that she can stop lying to her. Through deep conversations with her girlfriend, Jane, Emily realizes just how much her life might change. Just as she begins second guessing her decision to come out, her mother catches her with Jane. As Emily’s life is turned upside down, she must decide between her faith and her mother or being true to herself.

Told through the lens of poetic and reflexive documentary filmmaking, On the Fence is a short documentary that follows several conversations with a multicultural film crew, voicing their intertwined experiences on cultural dysphoria as immigrant youths. It is a film that serves to examine the inherent ties between home and identity, and instill a single but fundamental message to those who ever feel at a crossroads with their culture: you are not alone. On The Fence combats cultural dysphoria and allows audiences to find peace within themselves and rediscover Canadian customs and the culture that has gifted them a beginning. It is essential that those individuals see, not a disadvantage, but the privilege and beauty to have been a part of both.
