Long-Distance explores themes of homesickness and hope for the future. The events of this film were inspired by my mother's experience immigrating. Before the ability to video call, the only correspondence was through letters or quick long-distance phone calls. The film jumps back and forth between the past and the present as the main character adjusts and settles into her new life.

Two women in India are lovers in secret, but once they are caught, they choose to escape by running and hide in a forest. In their next lives together, they are two Muslim women in Malaysia, trying to show their affection for each other but being shamed into hiding their love once again by the strangers around them. In the next incarnation of their lives, they are finally able to share a kiss in public as two Chinese women in Taipei, on the morning where same-sex marriage is legalized in Taiwan.

Based on the published book, FRUIT OF THE VINE (Weisberg and Yoffe, Waldorf Publishing, 2018). In JUSTIN AND THE WERLOOBEE, we meet Justin, a sensitive, introspective boy whose physical features and personality make him a convenient target for many of his cruel peers. One night, he wakes to find himself on a mysterious island, which is inhabited by a horde of bizarre creatures. Despite his desperation to find out where he is and, more importantly, how to get home, he becomes involved in the plight of Irvino, a beast who is ostracized on this island much in the way that Justin is in his own world. The story ends with a twist as Justin, in helping Irvino, ends up helping himself by making a lifelong friend out of Irvino. JUSTIN AND THE WERLOOBEE is unique from other stories in the fantasy genre in that it is meant not only for the grade school-aged fantasy enthusiast, but also for anyone interested in the topic of bullies, and how altruistic qualities can develop in children.

Ryori (Cuisine in Japanese) is a Stop Motion Animated Film that depicts an Ojizo San Statue (guardian of the wayside) coming from within the forest to have a Shojin Ryori meal. Shojin Ryori is the traditional dining style of Buddhist Monks in Japan, the cuisine is made without meat, fish or other animal products. The film animates the process of cooking with elements of change in nature, so as to highlight the interconnectedness between cuisine and the environment. The components of a Shojin Ryori meal are based on the idea of balance. The rule of five is created between five colors and flavors in a meal; green, yellow, red, black and white as well as sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami. This balance in color and flavor is believed to provide nutritional balance while also bringing the body into balance with the seasons.

The Abandoned Block

Bee Happy centers on a young and curious bee as he explores his very first pollination festival with his grandma. While travelling through the city he is introduced to many performers, attractions, and sights. Through watching the various performances he learns a valuable lesson of a community coming together to create something beautiful.

A butterfly is resurrected from a rare specimen collection and explores the ruins of an ancient civilization that leads to a mysterious underground frozen cave. In the cave, the butterfly meets the Butterfly Man, who is an amalgamation of many other butterflies. The two dance and transform between the human and butterfly shapes. The frozen environment gradually melts, plants and organisms begin to wake up around them. Eventually, the butterfly man is blown away by the wind and becomes part of the natural environment. Metamorphosis reflects my concerns about human memory of lost time. The film explores philosophical ideas about life forms decomposing and then transforming into new organisms, between dreams and reality, and between humans and creatures.

In the wild, Rhinos and Red-Billed Oxpeckers have a very unique symbiotic relationship. The oxpeckers spend their day nestled on top of the rhino for food and protection, and in return they help to alert the often visually-impaired rhinos if there is danger in the area. They can, however, be a nuisance to their hosts, often picking at wounds when searching for food, and their bond can quickly turn parasitic.Based on their relationship in the wild, The Rhino and the Redbill is an independent Kickstarter pilot telling the story of a blind rhinoceros named Niles, a flightless oxpecker named Red, and their unhatched egg Sam, working together to weather the harsh realities of a drought ravaged wilderness. Scorchwater Valley is dying and it's taking everyone else down with it, and the duo strive to breathe life into a new world as they prepare for a newborn on the way. It's every creature for themselves as social structures have collapsed and factions of carnivorous gangs, evil cults, and deadly poachers compete to stay on top of the food chain. Niles and Redford have to work together to survive in a dying world, provided they can survive each other.
