After discovering a letter from their late friend Antonia, a magnetic group of trans women who call themselves The Fabulous Ones reconvene at the house they used to share to read it aloud: it is a will, and a plea. She feared that in death her parents would not respect her name and would dress her in men’s clothes, and longed to be buried in her ravishing green dress. So, her friends do what any friend would: they hold a séance to ask Antonia how to make it right. This mesmerizing blend of documentary and fantasy welcomes us into a friendship defined by the shorthand of decades — complete with practiced eye-rolls, familiar insults, and softness that need not be spoken. This film is a hilarious and poignant paean to trans friendship — it is something like magic.
