"Python Huntress" follows environmentalist and self-described python elimination specialist Donna Kalil, who spends her nights on “python patrol” in the Florida Everglades searching for invasive Burmese pythons. Originally imported as exotic pets, the snakes have since become apex predators in the region, growing up to 19 feet in length and devastating native wildlife populations, including the loss of an estimated 98 percent of mammals. Through Donna’s eyes, the film examines the python epidemic gripping the Everglades and the physical and emotional toll of a job defined by moral tension—where protecting a fragile ecosystem requires acts that do not come easily, even to those most committed to its preservation.
